Back to Provo!

So we set off early saturday morning. We had bought a big cargo bag thing to put on top of the car as we thought we'd have a lot more stuff this drive than the drive there. However.. we packed sooo good that we had plenty of room and the bag ended up inside the car. Which was great because we were worried about having something on the roof. So the first day went fine, quite quickly. we stayed in OFallon, Missouri and set off for a second day heading to Wyoming. The second day was harder but it also went quite quickly. We had time on our side this time so we never got to our destination later than about 8:30 which is really nice after driving for 14 hours!
So we get to Cheyenne, Wyoming and we're following our GPS which takes us through the nice part, past the nice part and into downtown gross Cheyenne. And then we see our hotel. Must be nice inside, we think. We had booked and paid for it days before thinking it was fine as the pictures looked normal and the price wasn't too cheap. But no, it reminded me of a prison. Scary scary hotel. Neither of us were relaxed enough to sleep more than about 4 hours so we left by about 6am. We learned our lesson never to stay in Cheyenne again. We found out that that was ranked 9th out of 19 in Cheyenne. Which is scary because it means there are 10 worse! Sadly as we drove down the road that morning we saw a Marriot that we didn't know about. ugh!
So we only had about6-7 hours the third day but we were so ready to be done with driving. We stopped for gas and some food and got back into the car to drive into the blinding sun and Derek couldn't find his sunglasses. Oh well. Probably somewhere in the back. So we drive a bit longer then the car starts making a rattling noise.. oh no. I looked in the back but it sounded like something was tapping against the window.. but i couldn't see anything so i open the sunroof and look out the top and see Derek's sunglasses hooked perfectly onto the roof rack shaking in the wind as we drive 70 mph. Found the sunglasses.
We got to Provo at about 2:45PM. We were so excited to see our new house. Its a little basement (pictures to come) of house owned by a couple waiting to retire there. They live in California but come back now and again every month or two to see family. She's really nice. Feels more like lodging than renting for a landlord. I think she likes feeling like we're her kids. Her parents live a few houses down and also treat us like their grandchildren. Its going to be good.
So she left us there and we started to move stuff in. Within 30 minutes we had locked ourselves out of the house. We took the wrong key with us. So off we trot to the grandparents for the key to the upstairs thinking that the door between the basement and upstairs is open. It wasn't. Derek had to get his tools and unscrew the actual lock. Another adventure.
We went to Costco with some friends and then Walmart to get a few things for the house and came home ready to just sleep. I started to make the bed but noticed it made a loud elephant type noise every time you touched it. Derek could hear it from rooms away. I sat on it and noticed that even if i moved a finger it made a noise louder than our alarm clock! So we took apart the bed and have been sleeping on a mattress on the floor since we got here.
Tuesday we needed to get a few things done on campus, including spending way too much money on books. ugh! Then we went off to DI (thrift store/charity shop) to look for cheap furniture and decorative things. We found.. not much really. An ironing board, picture frame and fruit bowl. We had nowhere to put our clothes so we needed some drawers or a dresser. IKEA!
We spent a good 3/4 hours in IKEA. love that place. We found lots of things for the house and didn't spend that much! We found a cool bookcase type thing with canvas box drawers than fit in each gap. We love it! We got home and decided to build it. IKEA are lovely the way they set out the instructions, so simple. So why does everyone still do at least one thing wrong? We spent about 20 mins fitting the bottom to the side. We were just screwing in the last screw and realised it was completely back to front. Oh well.. screws come back out. But after that it was pretty smooth sailing. we were done in about an hour and its perfect!
Hopefully we'll be done by the time class starts and hopefully we'll have more hilarious adventures the rest of the week.

Myrtle Beach

This summer we've had a couple of trips to Myrtle Beach in North Carolina. We were lucky enough to get to go Jet Skiing this last time! We loved it!
Then we all went into the sea to jump some waves like the first time and suddenly got all itchy. Now when i say itchy i mean like ants crawling all over you kind of itchy. I've never been itchier! It happened to only me at first but i freaked out and got all stressed and angry until i got in a cold shower on the beach and i felt much better. I was closely followed by EVERYONE else who had just realised how itchy the sand was or whatever was getting on us. But apart
from that little fiasco we had a great time. The view is beautiful and the weather was gorgeous. Hopefully it won't be the last time we visit :D

Her teacher said she is a great role model for the younger children . So well done Lil! We're so proud of you. Hope you enjoy big school :D love Auntie Deb and Uncle Derek.

Derek's Birthday

In the almost two years that Derek and I have been together we have celebrated two of my birthdays and none of his. We've not actually ever been in the same country on his birthday so i was very excited! Derek got the day off work and we managed pack a whole range of fun things into just one day. He had a treasure hunt for his presents, played basketball, talked to the family in england, went for lunch at Panera bread, walked through the natural science museum, got a smoothie, spent some time at the mall, had dinner at the cheesecake factory and watched a movie. best day ever!

July- Summer is almost over!

So we only have three more weeks here! its crazy! Derek is doing really well still but we're both looking forward to going back to BYU soon. Still looking for an apartment but we're getting closer everyday.. i can almost taste it!
I had my first ever fourth of july this summer. We sat on some grass and ate brownies with chase as we watched fireworks. I love how everyone just parks anywhere, in the middle of the road and sits on any random patch of grass like "its fourth of July, of course this is fine".

A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to go to Washington, DC for the weekend. Such a cool place to visit! There's so much to do and see and its all in beautiful buildings and gorgeous green parks.. oo we loved it! We'll definitely be going back there at some point in the future.
Derek has applied for dental schools so interviews will hopefully start rolling in. only heard from one so far but its early still.

The Moxie office olympics have begun this week which means team challenges everyday. Things like holding your breath underwater, buy the cutest baby clothes, eat the most chicken wings (the grosses night ever), dodgeball... etc. So far Derek's team are killing the others so we're happy!

We're also very into making homemade pizzas this summer. We are pros! They are the most delectable thing, we should open a pizza place. We made a Mexican pizza (with a stuffed crust!) and then a chicken and mushroom alfredo mmmm.
Derek's birthday is on tuesday, I'm so excited about it because in all the time we've been together we've celebrated two of my birthdays and not one of his. So this one is going to be amazing, i have lots of surprises planned which will probably mean another blog very soon. Anyway other than that i have been scrapbooking a lot. I have finished two now- our wedding album and our honeymoon disney album.
So that is the month of July in a nutshell. Its gone fast but been lovely as ever. Love you all!
